Scannell & Kurz was engaged in 2003 and again in 2006 and 2009 to review pricing and financial aid strategies for new students in order to enhance the institution’s understanding of the price sensitivity of the College’s admit pool and, in particular, certain subpopulations. Historically, the focus of the aid program had been to serve the economically disadvantaged. While access continues to be a critical part of the institution’s mission, influencing the student profile has become increasingly important as well. In addition, for the 2009 review, the College had the goal of recovering from the economic downturn.
Results of Our Work Together
The recovery was quick and dramatic: the discount rate came down without sacrificing socio-economic diversity. In addition, average SAT (CR & Math) increased from 1080 in 2006 to 1103 in 2010. The number of enrolled freshmen for Fall 2010 is at the highest it has been in a five-year span.
